New Brief on the U.S. Child Care Crisis
As National Family Caregivers Month kicks off, we released a new brief on an issue that’s top of mind for so many of the families we serve: child care.
For years, the U.S. has faced a crisis with affordability and accessibility of quality child care. The COVID-19 pandemic only exacerbated these issues, affecting the ability of working parents, particularly those who are low-income and lack job flexibility, to remain in the workforce. At the same time, child care providers continue to struggle with increasing operational costs and outdated infrastructure and facilities.
Based on their expertise, the brief authors highlight policy changes that are needed to ensure a robust, quality child care system and outline four pressing issues that warrant further attention. The authors also share recommendations for policymakers to ensure long-term supports are in place for families and the child care sector. Read the full brief here.
